Still Remain

'Still Remain' is concerned with the self that continues after loss. I wanted to make a portrait that held the intuitive and altered persistence of living after profound loss has fractured your relationship with the world.
The drawing is made on pages from Maurice Maeterlinck’s 'Death', where fragments of language around mortality, suffering and infinity remain visible through the blue ballpoint pen. Those words circle the figure with questions that have no stable answer. The antique text gives the drawing a surface occupied by death and the unknown, while the portrait insists on presence within it.
